Are you looking for a management career that allows you to have a major impact on society – improving the lives of thousands of young people?

Every day, nearly 3,000 of America’s students drop out of high school.  At one point most were just like you – ambitious and filled with dreams.  Our public school system is failing them.  You can make a difference, however, through The Broad Residency in Urban Education.

The Broad Residency in Urban Education is a management development program for emerging executives seeking a career in management that makes an impact.  The program is designed for graduates from business, public policy, and law schools who have at least four years of work experience in the private or public sector.  The Broad Residency provides immediate placement into full-time management positions in urban school districts and charter management organizations (CMOs), while providing two years of professional development and access to a nationwide network of education leaders.

In school districts, Residents report directly to the superintendent or a top cabinet member.  In CMOs, Residents report directly to the CEO or COO.  They are often tasked with leading major projects such as opening new schools, leading budgeting processes, increasing operational efficiencies, and improving human resources.  Residents earn starting annual salaries of $80,000 to $90,000 and participate in a series of professional development sessions over the course of two years.  At the conclusion of the two-year program, we expect that school districts and CMOs will hire Residents permanently in their current positions or promote them into more senior leadership posts.

Now in its sixth year, The Broad Residency has placed over 140 Residents in more than 35 urban school districts and charter management organizations across the country.  94% of Broad Residency alumni have stayed in education and continue to positively impact student achievement while becoming leaders in the education industry.

The Broad Center for the Management of School Systems values diversity and seeks participants from a wide variety of backgrounds and perspectives. Accordingly, The Broad Center does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, ethnic or national origin, age, disability, gender or sexual orientation with regard to employment opportunities, admissions policies, or the administration of its educational programs.
