NICHELLE STONE
The Broad Residency Class of 2007-2009
Current Organization: Duval County Public Schools, Fla.
M.B.A., Clark Atlanta University
B.E., Electrical Engineering, Vanderbilt University
“While in graduate school, I tutored students in grades K-12 and in each session was faced with students who lacked the necessary skills to succeed. These students were not incapable of learning the concepts presented, but had not been given the proper tools to grasp them. I believe that by combining my past educational experiences, the skills I have developed through my years of work within the corporate and public sectors, and the opportunity that The Broad Residency presents, I will be able to make an impact on the education system that will begin to remove some of the obstacles to success that students currently face and put them on track to making significant gains in their educational achievement.”
Nichelle Stone currently serves as the director of external funding for Duval County Public Schools, a district serving over 120,000 students in 160 schools. Prior to joining The Broad Residency, Stone worked as a group operations manager in the card services division of Bank of America. In this role, she created, implemented and maintained the national rollout of the claims project management office infrastructure and marketing plan. Previously, Stone spent six years at Delta Air Lines, Inc., where she moved into roles of increasing responsibility. The last position she held at Delta was SAP process lead for supply chain management, an enterprise resource planning system that integrates all the parts of a company into one IT system. Prior to joining Delta, Stone served as a supply chain representative at Thermo King Corporation, where she assisted two purchasing managers in the daily oversight of all procurement activities related to the corporate office and MRO materials. She began her career at Westinghouse Corporation as an electrical engineer in a rotational professional development program. Stone participated in The Broad Residency in Urban Education Cohort 2007, serving her two-year Residency in Duval County Public Schools.
